Who We Are
Garden Theology was started to raise up a new generation of gardeners, based on Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 9. The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Our mission? We’re here to root out evil, salt the earth, and shine light into our own gardens. We’ve been called to fulfill the Great Commission: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
We’re a group of artists, creatives, writers, and gardeners—all enthusiastic about living in and learning about the Word of God.
Garden Theology started from a love of the garden, which is where all our stories really begin. God is always speaking throughout His creation. And there’s so much you can learn about Him and His ways from the things He created. He’s still walking in the garden. Will you join Him?

Elise Lakey
“In 2022, God really spoke to me to ‘do it again,’ to pursue my dreams and to keep writing—and this time, for His Glory, not my own. Without too many instructions, I just set out to obey. With a love of gardening and a desire to learn more about God’s gardens, I stepped out in faith—and let God do the rest.”
Elise is passionate about mentoring the next generation in the Spirit and cultivating biblical literacy in young adults. Based in Nashville, Elise currently writes and teaches in both business and ministry settings. She has a background in creative writing, photography, and marketing—and pursues other random hobbies like weaving and vermicomposting.

What We Believe
We believe in the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives. Jesus Christ, as both God and man, is the only One who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again to prove His victory and empower us for life. To receive forgiveness and everlasting life, we must repent of our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and submit to His will for our lives.
We Believe the Bible is God’s Word.
The Holy Bible is complete and God-breathed. It is accurate, authoritative, and applicable to our everyday lives.
We believe in the Holy Trinity.
God, the Creator of all things, exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is abounding in steadfast love, slow to anger, and completely holy.
We believe in baptism by the Holy Spirit.
To live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptized in water and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables us to use spiritual gifts, which we should earnestly seek as followers of Christ.
We believe God has a plan for each of us.
God has individually equipped each one of us to achieve His purpose for our lives—which is to worship Him, fulfill our role in the Church, and serve our communities. The Holy Spirit helps guide and communicate this purpose.
We believe We all need daily renewal in the Spirit and in Truth.
God wants to heal and transform us so that we can live healthy and blessed lives to help others more effectively. The best way to do this is through prayer, fasting, giving, operating in the Spirit, and reading the Word of God, which is the Bible.
We believe in the Apostle’s Creed.
We believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
